Kathleen Trahanovsky is adjunct associate professor and Associate
Coordinator of General Chemistry at Iowa State University where she
has taught General and Organic chemistry for more than thirty
years. She received a BA from Emmanuel College in Boston and a Ph D
in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State. She has been active in
programs to encourage women in science and was Chair of the Women
Chemists Committee of the American Chemical Society from 1989 -
1991. Currently she serves as director of Science Bound, a program
to increase the number of ethnic minorities matriculation to
colleges and universities in scientific fields. The program
involves a coalition of Iowa State scientist, the Des Moines public
school system, and Des Moines area businesses. She is also PI for
PIPELINES, a collaboration with Southern University Baton Rouge,
funded by NASA. She is a member of Iota Sigma Pi, Sigma Xi, and the
Association for Women in Science and has received departmental and
college awards for teaching, advising, and mentoring.
